If you think you may be experiencing a medical emergency, immediately call 911.
The Emergency Department is the first place where many patients are greeted by the excellent team at Northwest Medical Center. For the past few years, we have been diligently focused on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of our emergency rooms by working closely with fire rescue to ensure that there is a seamless transition to care, streamlining communication within our departments, and offering our patients newer and better ways to contact us in the event of an emergency.
What to Expect in the Emergency Department
A triage nurse will assess you upon your arrival and will evaluate your chief complaint and vital signs. Your priority of treatment is based upon the severity of your illness, as determined by the triage nurse. You will be seen in the order of arrival time, unless you are determined to be seriously ill or unstable. Patients who are determined to be emergent will be taken to the treatment area immediately.
The registration clerk will obtain information for your medical record, including billing information. The registration clerk will obtain authorization for treatment from your insurance company. Your being seen and treated by the emergency department physician will not be delayed by the registration process or insurance verification. All patients will be medically screened, evaluated and stabilized regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
If you are stable, you may have to wait for a bed to become available. You will, however, be made as comfortable as possible while you wait and the staff will keep you advised as to the status of your visit. We have a convenient Wait Time Monitor located in the waiting room which shows approximate wait times for each patient.
How Can You Reach Our Emergency Department?
The Emergency Department continually strives to advance the patient check-in process with new technologies such as the self-service ED KIOSK. With billions of self-service transactions taking place each year, today’s patients expect healthcare providers to deliver the same level of convenience they receive from leading retailers, airlines, and hotels. The new check-in process is simple. Patients have the option of manually entering in their own information or scanning their Florida Driver’s License and the reason for their visit. Once their information is entered into the system, the triage nurse is automatically notified of their arrival. Yet another key advantage of using the ED Kiosks is that all the information the patient provides will accurately captured in the patient’s medical record.
Our focus on enhancing care and improving emergency processes has dramatically reduced wait times to below national averages. Wait times are updated every 30 minutes and are available via text of ER to 23000, our mobile website, iPhone and Android iTriage app, and roadside digital billboards throughout the region.
