Northwest Medical Center has developed an intensivist program to monitor critically ill patients in their intensive care units, an 8 bed cardiovascular intensive care unit and a 16 bed intensive care unit. The program officially started on Monday, April 4, 2016 with providers staffed around the clock to immediately intervene in emergency situations. According to the Leapfrog Group, a consortium of Fortune 500 companies and other large health care purchasers, intensivist coverage results in increased survival, reduced ICU stays, fewer clinical and procedural complications and improved patient satisfaction.
