Types of Therapies Offered at the Rehabilitation Center
Physical Therapy treatment is aimed at restoring strength and movement to the affected area of the body, as well as restoring proper walking, balance and transfer skills.
Occupational Therapy utilizes a client-centered evaluation that identifies deficits in the ability to perform self-care, home management, and outside activities, including work that results in an upper extremity injury, condition, or neurological disorder. Occupational Therapists address the physical, cognitive, and mental challenges accompanying the injury or condition and can teach compensatory techniques to allow each individual to return to his/her highest level of performance in his/her valued occupation. The ultimate goal is the patient’s return to participation in his/her daily activities.
Speech Therapy completes our team approach by evaluating and treating a patient’s ability to effectively communicate through speech and language skills.
Speech Therapy also evaluates and treats swallowing disorders to ensure the patient is able to safely eat the least restrictive diet. Videofluoroscopic swallow studies may be performed to further evaluate the swallowing disorder.
Patients with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological disorders may benefit from the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), a technique for improving the voice volume of patients. In addition, patients with cognitive issues also receive treatment to improve their communication skills.
